There can't be a goal because to have a "goal" you have to be conscious of what your "goal" is. Evolution is not conscious, so it can't have "goals". Humans often have goals that they are conscious of and are planning to achieve, but more often than not they do not pan out, so they are either forgotten or they change or replaced by different goals. Humans are something like 2% goal driven and 98% reacting to external forces. Natural processes are of course 100% reactionary. If the universe is deterministic, that 2% also reduces to 0%.

Life just wants to survive and spread. People invented mythologies and religions to find another, more meaningful point to life but nature doesn't need that.
Also it'll not go on and on forever since we're pretty sure the universe isn't eternal so whatever that point is, it'll only be momentary.
