Why don’t exponential graphs look like sideways parabolas?

I can understand why an exponential graph with a positive base looks like half a parabola but shouldn’t a graph with a negative base have a shape that looks similar to a rotated parabola as every time x is an even value y is positive and likewise whenever x is odd y is negative?

they dont look like half a parabola lmao
why should they??? its a c9mpletely different function. as x gets bigger, a^x should change faster and faster. so its slope should increase. sixe ways oarabolas look nothing like this.

What yoy described is not at all what yiy drew. Also you meant to write (-a)^x, not -a^x. Also the graph would not be continuous. Also exponentials with a positive base dont look like half a parabola at all

Yeah that’s why I said like not are since the function would only converge at x= some number infinitely close to 0. They only reminded me of the shape but what I’m trying to understand is why does the formation of an exponential function with a negative base not take look close(not the exact shape but something similar) to that of a sideways parabola as the positive and negative results have greater and greater differences between each other with every plot
