Potential energy is an abstraction for humans to understand things in similar terms, not an actual fundamental component in reality. I'll admit it was hard for me to understand in high school because of this, even though I was really good at math. I basically had to accept that it was just a concept rather than an actual thing, then it clicked.

It doesn’t. You’re overthinking things.
Potential energy of the tree sack only depends on the mass of the sack and the height above “ground level”. You put work into lowering ground level and that changed the potential of the sack. But your sweet, body heat, and BO were “transferred” to the sack directly. You could equally have raised the sack higher, or simply waited for the tree to grow higher, in which case the tree didi all the additional work.

Yeah true, but again and this is most evident in electromagnetics. Common electronic components, capacitors and inductors, store energy in electric and magnetic fields respectively.

Energy is a tool useful for calculation. It doesnt matter if you think energy is real or just number in a formula, you cant tell the difference. People say this all the time, atoms are not real, imaginary numbers are not real, etc. Boring, you have never seen an atom or a volt. Your clock and the earth's clock needs to sync. That's why you feel something when you are standing and sitting. When you are higher up, you don't need to sync as much.
