>>14365653There are currently 13080 nukes in the world, with an average yield of 300 kt. The Area coverd by such a nuke is 550 km^2, of which only 161 km^2 is a lethal area, in the rest you are only breaking windows.
Of the 13080 nukes in existance, only 3750 are active, so ready to be fired.
So if every single one of those hit, and all targets are different, so there is no overlap, those nukes could cover an area of 2062500 km^2. and destroy only 603750 km^2. The total urban areas of humanity based on data from 2000 is 600000 km^2, and roughly 55% of the population lives there. So worst case scenario, if all bombs hit urban areas, half of humanity is wiped out.
This ofcourse is not how it would happen in reality. Most active nukes are not well maintained, and wouldn't fire. Most nukes wouldn't target urban ares, but instead target other missile silos to as a defensive measure. Most nukes would be shot down by nuclear defenses, many would target military installations, and the ones aimed at prestiege targets would overlap (atleast 10-20 shot at washington DC and the same for Moscow).
In reality a few big cityes would be leveled, and thats all.
