PhD physics here.
I found flash cards work very well for me.
Not just rote memorization.
Cards that say things like:
>derive the speed of light
>code a hash map in C
Etc… whatever you find useful.
I try to do these derivations differently each time.
Over the years, I found that my ideal sweet spot is “memorizing” 1000 cards.
I keep these cards updated, constantly changing things out to make them more general.
These 1000 cards are basically the most abstract genetic topics that I need to effectively do my work/research.
So a few times a week I basically just keep up with those cards.
Finding new derivations.
Seeking connections.
Updating where appropriate.

The flashcards are good to solidify a strong foundation.
That's really all you need.
And when going through them, just sit back on the couch and have some coffee.
Try to do a new derivation that you've never done before.
Push the boundaries.
It's a great way of expanding your abilities.

Reading about the subject (textbook), watching videos on the subject (youtube), solving problem questions and flash cards for memorization.

Depends. There's days where I don't study at all, but usually like 2-3 hours per day.

Yeah. Don't waste your time writing elaborate notes or "synthesizing" stuff you've read like muh Feynman notes or Cornell notes bullshit.

Go out of your way to try and solve the trickiest problems you can find so that you can don't struggle with potential 'traps' that you may encounter in an exam.

No. I keep the formula and concepts in my head.
My flash cards include the most abstract/general derivations of things.
For example "derive the speed of light".
The flash card will have the most general and perfect definition that I know of.
But when I come across the card, I'll derive it in a completely new/different way.
If my derivation is better, then I'll replace the card with my new derivation.
And the refinement repeats.

Hardly anyone would be able to interpret my cards except for me. They're simply an exercise in thinking extremely deeply about the basics, which helps all other tasks.

Atomic problem questions that are usually fairly simple/short, but require a specific method or idea in order to be solved. It's just a way to test whether I still remember a quirk or detail.
