Maybe if Polgar ever went through with his idea of adopting some random child from africa and seeing if he could make a chess grandmaster out of it, his hypothesis that he sought to prove with his daughters might have some merit, but as it stands to me it seems a couple of really smart people had some really smart children.
Even the cases of prodigies that were born to illiterate parents like Gauss, were the parents actually smart but just had no opportunity or were they actually dumb and the kid became a genius through effort or abberation?
