The funny thing is, this leads them to take more pills to treat the damage the first ones did, and then more pills to treat the damage done by the second round of pills, and so on and so forth, thus creating a vicious circle. The result is that they do so much damage to themselves that end up really needing those pills to live normally.
I remember this one picture of a pill bag that belongs to one of these addicts (you probably know it, it got posted on 4chan quite a few times). And there were like 13 or 14 kinds of pills in there. Judging by the variety and number of pills, I initially thought that this person was a cancer patient with all mental illnesses known to man. But I googled the drugs, their intended use, and their side effects, and guess what? Every pill treated another pill's symptoms. It was all a big loop.
