It's called dark because it's hypothesized to be literally dark, as in, non-interacting with the electromagnetic spectrum... That's it (some anon pointed out that "clear matter" would be more appropriate, but it's also "dark" in the sense of a mysterious, yet to be identified nature)
It is also hypothesized to be a plug in for an error in the calculations involving the motion of galaxies, one that might eventually call for a revision of the theory instead of the assumption that something exists yet we can't detect it
What no one is assuming except of you, is that this "dark matter" would be something beyond the natural realm, or linked in any way to the existence of God
