>>14344251>free will as in an action happening without a physical cause behind itThis is the false interpretation that leads most determinists astray from realizing the truth. The basic definition of determinism is that we are merely [a] sum of our parts, all of which is causally determined, i.e. all particles have predictable behavior, we’re merely constituted of particles, therefore we behave predictably, hence no free will. However, this does necessarily imply action without a physical cause in the case of compatiblism.
Granted, most compatiblists are pedantic pseuds making bullshit semantic distinctions. The truth is that with QM fully fleshed-out with multiverse theory we can recover free will while ceding the obvious truth behind the axioms of determinism.
The religiously-loaded term “free will” is really the problem as it causes people like anon here to assume it needs a non-physical cause and a rejection of the axiom that we’re merely constituted of particles. The problem is we’re merely constituted of particles that have seemingly infinite permutations. However, according to multiverse theory, rather than infinite permutations, we are confined to the certain possibilities of QM.
