So, if you have a 100 ton iceberg, it displaces 100 tons of sea water. Icebergs are not out of sea water but fresh water. So, if the iceberg completely melts, it adds 100 tons of fresh water to the ocean and we no longer have the 100 tons of sea water displacement we had before.
So, we added 100 tons and removed 100 tons. Why does the sea level rise?
Because fresh water has a density of 1 kg/l while sea water has a density of about 1.025 kg/l.
The iceberg displaced about 97000 liters of sea water but adds 100000 liters of fresh water after melting, so we end up with an extra 3000 liters of water in the ocean
