They're right, you know. The assumption that there's "one right answer" to a given mathematical problem reinforces both white supremecy and paternalism.
Thoughts on this? How can we make math more anti-racist?

If they ever try to pull this "equity" bullshit on me when I'm teaching I'm not even fighting it, I'll go full-accelerationism. My official class policy will be that the entire class roster gets sliced up into a huge venn diagram of identity groups, and every identity group will have all its grades separately scaled so that it matches whatever the highest average among the groups is (C minimum). Then after tests I'll post a list of which groups received how many Diversity Points.

There is a big difference saying that the way we teach math is racist and stating that math is racist. There is always only one right answer to a math question. There might be multiple correct ways to get to that answer, but you need to teach one way of getting to that answer at a time or there is no point to it.
The aim of teaching is to teach the method. If you let people choose the method they will not learn some of them and can't solve problems that can only be solved with that method.
For instance vectors are good at solving lots of geometry problems, but completely useless at some. If you let people use vectors to solve the easy ones you won't be able to teach them the ones that can't be solved with them, as they have not learned the method for doing so.

It is somewhat true. I've always suspected that it would be more difficult to make students solve a problem with more than one approach, but that this would have enormous long term benefits to his creativity.
