So if you have 10 guys, ranked from 1 to 10, with a higher number indicating more attractiveness, if the number 10 guy just suddenly dies, then the new ceiling is established by the number 9 guy. And say that all of the guys above number 5 die, then all of a sudden number 5 is attractive. What evolution does is it pushes the both the ceiling and the floor higher. For instance, an average guy of today would probably be considered attractive in the year 1000.
So what I'm trying to say is that there will always be an order. You can imagine that, assuming we don't go extinct, 1000 years into the future the average guy will look like Chris Hemsworth, and the Chad of that era will be something so good we probably can't even imagine it.
