and actually the limit on how tall a mountain can get is not set by the strngth of stone but rather the metling point of stone. The high pressure beneath a tall enough mountain will melt the base.

Strictly speaking not a whole lot. There's a zone of melting in 2 places in the mantle, but not until you get to the outer core is it liquid.
