In the covid data, in particular in the 25-44 age group, there are a large number of deaths there is some pretty strange stuff going on. I saw this, and felt suspicion immediately. I subtracted out the covid deaths, and was expecting to find that the "remainder deaths" didn't correlate well with the Covid deaths. That would indicate they might be caused by something else.
To my surprise, it did correlate well. However my suspicion was not waylaid. I still think there is a flat-rate increase in deaths for this age group. The graph just looks that way. And the difference in variance seems to bear me out.
