Among those who are interested, it is. You've effectively just said "Why did we learn y=mx+b yet I'm 30 years old and have never used it?"
Every single dermatologist will tell you that *by far* the best way to prevent skin cancer is to wear moisturizing sun screen and newer developments have led them to start recommending vitamin C and retinol. This stuff is talked about nonstop in the dermatology/skin care world, and when it isn't being talked about is because it's fundamental knowledge that they all already know.

I enjoy the beach, picnics in the park, and sometimes fishing, so yes I'm going to spend $5 on a bottle of sunscreen that will last me 2 months
