How realistic is renewable energy in countries like Germany, Netherlands, France etc?

Storage is the issue and unreliable power production. Solar especially is very good as it can be used individually and without any greater infrastructure. Yet to fulfill the growing energy needs, the world is going to need nuclear power. France and its lans for thorium SMRs is the right idea so that the industry won't die out and can grow independent from autocracies like China or Russia.

Half of all electric energy produced in Germany is renewable. 20 years ago it was less then 10%. Other countries in Europe got even more. Some are already close to 100%.

most likely it will be a combo of renewable and nuclear, perhaps some biomass and gas (considering it is about the least pollutant of all fossil fuels)

hydropower in places where it is possible is definitely reliable, so is tidal (in places where it is possible). Wind and solar are a bit unreliable, but it is mitigated by various storage technologies. Also storage is not that big of an issue really, just use potential energy from gravity, molten salt like spain does, etc

Will it? Assuming Putin is gone in a few years over this (assuming he doesn't just die from old age), Russian energy may become cheaper and more reliable than ever if Russia's energy sector is brought into the fold of Western investment money.

The only countries approaching 100% renewables are reliant on hydro or geothermal. Norway and Iceland.
Also they also have low population density and the terrain that allows such energies to be implemented. This can't be done in Germany.

Don't think I'd ever want an array of batteries in my house, once they start burning they don't stop (thermal runaway). I suppose you could have a safer setup in a home than with EV meme mobiles, but those buildings don't look like they have a lot of free space for that

nuclear is just intermittent, eventually it will have to go, it is here only to bridge the gap between fossil and renewable, perhaps also fusion (in the future)
