its partly because degrees are mostly just a gatekeeping tool for jobs but networking is a natural way of gatekeeping retards and something you will deal with no matter what you do its just how things operate. Its one of the few things keeping idiots and autists away as much as possible from where they dont belong (happens anyway eventually of course)

The value is mostly questionable in the US because you pay an outrageous amount of tuition. Far more justifiable to get a degree in other countries, especially if you are studying something that has direct application in industry and internship opportunities available to students.

A masters degree in Spain is around 5k as an online student in the USA.
If I had to pay for my own masters, or of I intend to get a second I would enroll in Spain. The problem afterwards is getting it recognized and transferred to the USA, which is another gatekeeping method here...

Masters just exist as cash cows outside of the EU. Everywhere else if you aren't good enough to be accepted straight into a phd programme then you were never going to make it anyway

It's not though. It's cheaper than books and the video courses are absolutely professional on a community college book. Obviously it won't get you through undergrad at even a state college, but nobody would ever sell a service like that for a few dozen bucks a month in any country
