is there ANY difference to eye strain/damage by reading text on a paper vs ereader vs tablet?
assuming it is the identical text and the room is lit.

Does the ereader have a backlight? Tablets are known to be more stressful on the eyes than epaper or physical paper. For epaper versus physical paper, there can be issues if the screen has glare on it or it has a backlight. Contrast was an issue with earlier versions of epaper but it's not much of a problem now.

why does the backlight matter? what is the difference between a body emitting light (tablet), and a body reflecting light (paper), assuming they both put out the same amount of luminosity?
