>>14300482Well yeah, I don't think many saying "schizo" as a meme care to even know the difference between schizophrenia, schizoid and schizotypical. I'd have a lot more respect for psychiatrists if they didn't pass out SSRI's and benzos like candy as soft lobotomies for anything that can't be categorized beyond GAD or Depression, but at least in the US, regular doctors/PCPs do that too. Maybe expensive private psychiatrists are better, but how often can someone who really needs them afford them? Trying to help truly demented and dysfunctional people is a great thing. How many of the patients being treated right now for schizophrenia actually have it though? How many of them have been on 15 other mind altering medications for mis-diagnosed issues prior? It's one thing if someone gradually or suddenly cracks, when expected, without any substance abuse. I get that medicine is a practice, but the people doing research on the brain are doing the heavy lifting while the guy with the lounge chair in his office gets paid to play doctor and candy dispenser and is currently a net negative for society. Things could improve, but it likely wouldn't be until some soma-like substance is discovered that gets rid of the need for the antidepressant/anti-anxiety shit.
