Would it be possible to use an industrial powered laser to launch a projectile like pic related at a target several miles away? Assuming the laser had a barrel to guide the projectile, why wouldn't this work? You may even be able to use a handheld laser to fire off flechette sized rounds at medium ranges.
I thought that directly using a laser to cause physical damage to a target is like using just gunpowder or compressed air to damage something.
