Fuel prices are skyrocketing around the world, and realistically there will be a point where it may just be unavailable
is it time to revive the WW2 methods, by making new wood gas generators to power ICE cars and run old cars on wood?

Absolutely. People have no concept of how much solar energy is stored in their fuel or the rate that they consume it at. When people realize that they have to fell and replant a small forest each year so just so they can spend all their time stuck in traffic we'll start changing the way we look at our resources and redesign our infrastructure.

Wood has 1/3 the energy density of gasoline. It's not as bad as you guys are making it out to be.

hey I'm not saying we should convert the entire world to this method, thats obviously not gonna work
but as a backup, you wont be getting stuck in traffic because you'll be the only chad rolling around in his underpowered shitbox, but you will still be mobile at the very least

Why not just get an electric car at that point? With a Tesla solar roof, a Tesla house battery and a Tesla electric car you can drive around no matter the gasoline price and you'll always have access electricity even if the grid breaks down.

Do the math on how much timber you need to replace your gasoline assuming the efficiency is comparable. It's a small forest.

I just did an order of magnitude estimate for you. You need somewhere around 31,000 tree-years of wood for your car, which means you need to maintain a forest of 31,000 trees and plant 6,200 trees each year if you harvest every 5 years or 1,550 trees each year if you harvest every 20.

If you'd like to check my math I used (([volume of gasoline]*[density of gasoline]*[energy density of gasoline])/[energy density of wood])/[tree growth rate kg/year] for my estimate.

I forgot to specify that the volume of gasoline is the annual consumption of one person and that I used the total population rather than the driving population so it's an underestimate.
