Nyquist Aliasing Effect When Looking at Spinning Wheels

We all know that sometimes wheels appear to be moving backwards when we see them on the highway. This occurs due to aliasing. As a wheel increases speed, it will initially appear to be moving faster and faster, before suddenly moving in reverse really fast and slowing down, before suddenly moving forward again and speeding up, and eventually you won't be able to tell which direction it's going in and the wheel will appear very blurry. Would the number of spokes on a wheel change the speeds at which this phenomenon occurs, or is this phenomenon constant for small and large numbers of spokes?
