but you understood it anyway. yeah it actually has a lot of neat implications. for instance, cacti get hella sun but don't use most of it. photosynthesis requires the input of CO2 and water. if you're a plant, the only way to get co2 is to open your stomata. if you open your stomata in the desert during the day, you'll desiccate from water vapor loss. so cacti and others evolved a different ass way to photosynthesize several different times. they only "breathe" co2 at night, storing it to use the next day, thereby minimizing water loss. under extreme drought stress, cacti don't absorb any light for photosynthesis; they coast on stored water and use mitochondrial respiration. that's why large cuttings can keep for months in proper conditions.
