a single word in a book.
As your staring at this one word trace all of the other words with your peripheral vision. After you have gone through the whole page, move to the next word and repeat. At first, the text in your peripheral vision will first seem to change font style, some parts will appear bold and italic. After a little bit of exhaustion, the words will be highlighted in different colors. When they start changing colors, you can focus on this highlighter itself.
I was practicing this to see if I could read words out of focus, but it never improved. Another way to trigger this is by looking through a chain link fence into a monotonous background. Each segment has a color.
