Seriously, we can barely define what it means to be conscious and distinguish from what is conscious to what isn't (though it's agreeable that only life forms can be conscious), so imagine actually trying to undersand what a mind is
Somehow electrochemical reactions in our brain generate a thinking process capable of influencing itself, kinda like a processor, oinly the most advanced AI in teh world is complete and utter shit compared to our mind (though occasionally they can be better at certain tasks, ie calculus and chess)
Anyway, we don't know; the knowledge isn't there, the machines to experiment aren't there... Who knows, maybe it's too ocmplex a matter to ever study satisfactorily
