Cities in areas that are hot and need relief from the Sun. Dubai might be interested in this. knock down the daytime temperature by 20-30 degrees Fahrenheit. Dubai has money to burn. Imagine the energy savings. Elon Musk... you wanna give this a go?

We cannot delay global warming with geoengineering or any engineering really. This is a stupid plan.

The problem is that if we pump sulfur into the atmosphere, or put mirrors in space, if we haven't gone carbon neutral by the projects conclusion global warming will come back even worse than it was before. Planet cooling "schemes" dont work, they just get canceled out by more fossil fuel consumption, we need to get rid of fossil fuels.

That's not too bad for the balloon but you have to understand that a massive wind catching sheet could not be held in place like that for various reasons. Anchor cable of that length and of diameter to keep the thing in place could not be lifted by ballons. I doubt the sheet itself could even be raised by balloons to that height.

Western rural people actually pollute far more, simply due to the total need for cars for every household. My mom lives in the countryside and she needs a car to get groceries while i just have to walk down the block. Cities are usually closer to shipping routes so the food is transported even shorter to the store. Subways are electrical and buses take far more people. Rural houses are bigger and thus consume more energy to heat. The only thing more efficient in the countryside is closeness to agriculture, if there even is any.

That's due to population density rather than individual pollution. Not to mention that a lot of pollution comes from industry, which is located in densely populated areas but serves the needs of all of the population. If you buy a pair of sneakers, the sneaker factory will pollute near the city, but that's the fault of you rather than the city dwellers. Again, western rural people are far more car-dependent than urban people. What you're doing is like if urban people complained about rurals cutting down nature for farmland and forestry, but that's just a part of serving the wants and needs of the entire population. I think you just need something to be butthurt at, but choose a better target.
