Can and should the inhabitants of either /sci/, /fit/, /r9k/, and /biz/ adopt, post/promote, and take on projects (from places like GitHub) relating to "biohacking" or DUY biology?

From what I know, "biohacking" is the application of biology (, and other related sciences) with the aim to or "improve" or modify living organism outside traditional institutions and corporations.
