>>14275033Because people are not taught about career planning and, it turns out, this is the most important thing for your future wealth. Even I am guilty of this. I studied math just because I liked math and it was not until my 3rd year that I thought "wait... what the fuck am I going to do as an actual job?". Luckily it is easy to spin math into finance but other people are fucked. Because people have no idea about career planning, this is what they think:
>BusinessWell, I don't have any passions or interests. But I want a normal middle-class job. Jobs come from businesses so... I'll study business.
>HealthI see doctors and nurses all the time. I guess I kinda like helping people be healthy. And it says here that you get a very stable income.
>Social sciences:I'm like, very in touch with my, like, feelings and like social causes. Maybe I should like, specialize in like social stuff.
>Psychology:Omg I am so like into psychology. Like our brains are like mystery boxes. And my ex was like a total narcissist! I think I'm good at this.
>Biological SciencesMy dad tells me I should do STEM... but biology was the only science class I did not fail. I suppose I'll do bio.
>EngineeringEngineers... build things? I see buildings all the time! Must be a fun career just creating awesome stuff!
>Arts:I'm like so like so artistic. Like my feelings just like materialize into the canvas. I'm such an artistic genius.
>EducationI don't want high school to stop. I guess I can just teach?
>Journalism:Oh my god like I love writing like my thoughts like about stuff! I totes should be a cool journalist!
etc.
