Depends on the definition, and people can't seem to agree on it. I prefer to use the term "consciousness" because I can observe that it exists (although I cannot prove to you that my consciousness exists, only you can prove it for yourself etc.) Funny thing is that the consciousness (you can call it soul if you want tho!) probably doesn't affect the material reality at all, it just perceives it. Like, it's completely possible for a human to act and react as if it had a "soul", but actually doesn't. The soul isn't required to make the meat robot move. It's just there to experience everything related to that human body and brain.
Weird shit! Don't get me started on the NPCs who argue that consciousness doesn't exist, let's all point and laugh at those zombies!
