Russia is a failing nation and Putin's primary desire is to reverse that and to make a legacy for himself. Their economy is almost entirely reliant upon oil- to claim Ukraine's territory is to give them more resources and the old bread basket of the USSR. This is a war of Russian (Putin's, specifically) aggression and should not be allowed to stand.
NATO exists primarily to protect the civilians of Europe from exactly the kind of piecemeal conquering that the Russians have been attempting for the past seven years with Ukraine and the past 28 years since the First Chechen War.

These are legitimate points but so is the counter argument - allowing Russia to bully whoever they want under thread of nuclear war is not feasible, since the only thing that held them in check in the 20th century was the ever present threat of nuclear holocaust.

Just off the top of my head, I can list 30 countries the US initiated military aggression against. The actual number is probably at least double. Submarine launched missiles can hit targets in the US in six minutes. You won't have much of a warning and probably will be grocery shopping or asleep in the middle of the night when it happens. Your only move to prevent getting nuked is simply to not be near a target.
