Ok so
1) the capacitor charachteristic function is i v(t) = 1/c integral of i(t) in time
2) the integral of the current if you apply the laplace transformation is 1/s, where s is a complex number: j + w
3) the real part of this number affects the magnitude of a periodic function multiplied by it
4)the imaginary part affects the phase of a periodic funtion multiplied by it
5) because maths.
6) the realistic p.o.v is that the capacitor takes time to charge itself and so if you apply an alternate voltage to it the output will lag because the cap is constantly charging and discharging
