It used to be relatively rare so having it taste good to encourage consumption was good evolutionary. But now there is an overabundance of these foods and even foods engineered to have the compounds that taste good.

Pretty much the only things that taste gross to us are things that are more than unhealthy, but dangerous to ingest, like actual shit or putrefying meat
since we're on the topic of the evolution of taste, consider this: obligatory carnivores have the weakest sense of taste, so they aren't repulsed by the carrion they can actually digest, while herbivores have the strongest, so they can recognize the freshest patches of grass and spit toxic plants out

wrong. a lot of green leaves vegetables taste gross af even unedible (to me anyways)

Foods that tastes good aren't always bad for you and food that tastes bad aren't always good for you. Take Spinach for example. It's full of oxalates, is a kidney stone generator and I think it tastes awful. Salmon on the other hand is filled with healthy fats and is delicious. We've simply been spoiled by the insane amounts of sugar and salts loaded into foods today. Animals proteins are not intrinsically bad for you as humans who are active actually require exorbitant amounts of calories to function. Veggies have little to no calories and mainly consumed as a supplement for various vitamins, but should not be a staple. Also, foods are being loaded with harmful seed oils, salts and other processing with fucks them up.
