>>14256142Set aside for a moment that it is not the school's place to teach you this information - your parents should be doing it. Exactly what an academic institution should be teaching you is academic knowledge, and just because a bunch of fucking losers who never paid attention cannot find a use for it does not mean the knowledge is either useless or valueless.
That aside: I went to a middle school in Georgia and a high school in California. Shit about getting jobs, filing taxes, investing in the stock market, sex ed, having healthy relationships with people, etc. were literally required curricula in both states, at both levels of schools. All of this stuff is taught in school. The idiots bitching about MUH SCHOOL never paid attention when it was being taught to them, and still asked shit like, "When will I ever need to know this?"
These dumb assholes were never going to pay attention. It doesn't matter what's taught, how it's taught, or who teaches it. That's an unfortunate result of education research - changing curricula seems have almost no effect on student outcomes. The only thing that consistently does is whether or not the student is motivated, and student motivation is decided before they ever get in the classroom. It's a social problem, not an educational one.
>>14256181Setting aside that the majority of people crying about this kind of stuff on social media are white millennial losers and white Karen mommies: Both schools I went to were in lower income areas, primarily populated by non-whites. Black kids in Georgia, and Hispanic/Latino kids in Southern California. This shit is absolutely taught. The kids don't pay attention because School Isn't Cool™. Cope fucking harder about it, but that's the cause of the problem. Kids don't pay attention, and then blame the school they were never going to listen to in the first place for failing to get them to pay attention to the shit that was already being taught.
