I have a degree in Geology from just before the pandemic. Lost my job writing science reports at a tech firm 2 months ago because the company cut 1/3 of their workers. Here's a job listing for a GPS/GIS field technician I found. To apply they require 3-5 years experience. Further requirements are:
Experience identifying Electric utility distribution networks including additional knowledge in water/stormwater/wastewater, fiber and gas lines.
Experience in ArcMap and ArGis Pro
Experience in AutoCAD map 3D
Knowledge of SQL coding
Experience in geological surveying equipment including GPS
Experience in Field Data Collection techniques
The ability to relocate to Iron Mountain, MI
All for the great price of $16 an hour.
Fucking hell I can earn $16 working at In N Out Burger. Is this the state of modern STEM employment? We're expected to have years of experience and be willing to relocate across the US for literal burger flipping wages? How goes the rest of the STEM field?
