Just look at all of the complexities for Heat Shock Protein alone in cancer and you'll see what I mean.
However, we keep learning and finding/trying new drugs or repurposing old drugs that actually have effects that we now know are beneficial in treatment, so it's possible that we eventually discern exactly what to do for each cancer and why.
The fact that each cancer is different does add to the complexity though.
