if the ignorant criticism of the lay person makes you clutch your pearls, then the foundations of your knowledge are weak to begin with. the scientific community is very much shackled to the state, and thus, by proxy, those uneducated and troublesome rabble who pay taxes.

Dumb post, but it brings up an important question:
When did "skepticism" become "I believe this thing isn't true?" The OP has no evidence to believe what he does, same as Mandela Effect weirdos or people who think the Pope made up a century. The tendency to believe what's not real has always been there, but when did it get the label "skeptic"?
