I dropped a magnet (strong neodymium) down through copper (made of copper washers). Nothing, no resistance at all. Isn't something supposed to happen here?

This isn't homework, this is just me messing around for un.

Rub the magnet on one of the washers and you should feel the resistance( if not then it's an alloy of some sort). Measure how far you can feel the effects, usually they drop it in a smaller diameter pipe.

washers are no good, you need a copper tube, the gaps between the washers prevent the formation of eddy currents. thats why transformer cores are made from sheets of metal laminated together, to eliminate eddy currents
