>>14239718You are partially right but as with all issues it's complicated, and a question of statistics. Yes, how they see themselves is part of the problem. Trans people are inherently not at home within their own bodies. Unlike LGBTQ minorities. But how we see ourselves is largely determined by how our society tells us we look. Hence the whole concept of body positivity for instance.
Do you know why they call it pride? Do any of you? Racists and bigots always think it's about some sense of superiority, of rubbing it in. When the reality is anything but.
All LGBTQ people, every last one, know what it's like to live with shame. Their entire lives, they are ashamed of who they are, what they look like, how they think, how other people think about them, how they feel, how their families would react, what would happen to their careers, friendships, even ashamed to just look at themselves in the mirror. All the time, all their lives, shame. Just, shame. And for what? For being a little different, and harming nobody.
Most cis people, and especially white cis people - men and women both mind you, but especially men -, have never, ever known real shame. Ever. Let alone every single fucking second of their entire lives.
How do fix a lifetime, decades, of nothing but shame about simply being you? You bring out its counterforce. The polar opposite. Pride. Pride in being a fucking human being. Pride in trying your best. Pride in having survived thus far and in living your life to its fullest and fuck all the people who you have never hurt, but who want to hurt you simply because hate and violence is their way. Pride in the fact that you will not ever fucking back down again. Ever.
Pride, in that you are not better than others, but the same. Worth the same as anyone else. Deserving of all the same life's luxuries, work, hobbies, friends, love, and acceptance.
All it is, is about equality. That's it. But even that, is too much for the hateful monsters out there.
