>>14237075but it is. they developed the retrieving mechanism for these canisters , when they designed these for sure. there is just no vehicle or mission planned to make this even happen so far. budget has already be allocated to other things before this will get any funds. nasas focus shifted to the juno probe, the 16 psyche probe, janus dual probe, fucking artemis, the peregrine moon lander from astrobiotic, another lander probe called nova-c, both part of nasas comercial payload program and so on. theres a chance that someone might actually pick those up by hand before nasa sends a probe to do so, but then again, just take even better samples when you are already there and dont waste resources and time to find them, just to rely on botched drill cores some remote controlled thing made 10-15 years ago
