Be honest, have you ever actually read a texbook front to back AND done signicant amount of the included excercises?

Yes, I did so for all my maths textbooks. The exercises become less tedious but more conceptually important in graduate courses (their solutions and lemmas become more integral to the main text).

I literally had to for my chem degree
I read all of Stewart calculus and solved many exercises from all topics
I had to because we had to go to the maths department and our teacher was fucking garbage

For smaller books, yeah. They essentially served as problem books and supplemented the short weekly exercises we got when I took class on the topic.
Baby Rudin, Folland's Real Analysis, Herstein's Topics in Algebra, Lang's Linear Algebra, Atiyah-MacDonald, Armstron's Topology, etc.

Yes, but it depends on the book. Most textbooks you can't read front to back. There are few excellent ones that are worth the time though.

Yes, but it's not because I enjoy it for easier textbooks (Calc I - III refreshers and whatnot) -- I find it painful -- it's because my OCD makes NOT doing it even more painful.

Yes some in my free time and my bachelor but the Universities just made selections so you would read 60% to 90% and do roughly 30% to 40% of the exercises.
