Is reliability engineering a good field?
Seems like it's not very popular and would be a good career choice.

Reliability/Maintenence Engineering was a popular concentration at my undegrad program. I only took the reliability engineering course, but it was interesting, it was mainly probability/statistics (calculating hazard rates, failure time distributions, etc.). I can't really speak to what the actual job is like, but it was very in demand when I was graduating.

Seems alright from a course I took for my degree, it's basically statistics and deduction of what causes problems. Only thing I found was that while you learn a lot of theory, they seem to hide the fact getting information for the theory is a complete separate issue since 99.99% of data is dirty.

I am a reliability engineer. Something not being very popular is usually a good thing, because it means the forces of supply and demand are working in your favour. Anyway it's a decent gig that pays good money. But it really depends on what your field is. You could potentially earn more money in other occupations. If it seems interesting to you, just do it. Reliability engineering will always be in demand.

I tried looking for "reliability engineering" jobs in the UK out of interest and they are all comp sci/programming jobs and not traditional engineering jobs. I've seen that
set of curves in the OP during my mech eng degree, so I'm interested to know what's going on. The job title must be different.

Devices tend to be very complex. Which means that you will see a lot of artifacts from underlying failure mechanisms that you are unable to interpret. At least without extensive deep dive testing, for which is usually no money available. Thus you are stuck trying to interpret noisy data.

In IT/software reliability engineering also exists, but the job is typically more about things like setting up/managing infrastructure. I have a buddy who was in CS and is now a reliability engineer in an IT group, his job is mostly helping his team setup cloud infrastructure. The theory from traditional reliability engineering transfers over (for things like determining system reliability / optimizing redundancies), but the day to day work is much more code monke. That said, traditional reliability engineering in practice also doesn't use a ton of the theory and in my experience leans more into the maintenance planning aspects.

I don't know lol, I just stumbled into it. Really just do any study that involves math, statistics and physics. I work for a semiconductor company and most of my colleagues studied electrical engineering. So probably that.

I'm a mech eng senior. We have briefly touched upon parts of this area. Mostly with took/equipment failure or stuff related to vibrations.
No internship. 4.0 GPA.
My school does an MSc in reliability and asset management. I was thinking of doing that and praying it will help.

I am sorry but I really can't help you. I studied physical chemistry myself. Maybe someone else here is more familiar with your situation.
But with a 4.0 GPA you really should not be worried about your career path. Whatever you do you will probably be the smartest person in the room.

Maintaining a high GPA is more to do with staying consistent and not slacking off. Practicing next weeks materials two weeks before it. Going to every class and doing the tutorial questions right after.

It shouldn’t be a separate degree. Do mechanical engineering-or any other engineering degree as a major as per your interest. Make sure you do some useful stats courses. Get a bit of real world experience ideally in maintenance and then branch out to reliability.

This would apply to everything from power generation plants to disk farms for Google.
