I mean of you make the box big enough and angle it right then you could have the light shine through and the time it takes for the beam to reach the origin point can be long enough that it would be feasible to close the opening fast enough so the light wouldn't escape.

Not really. The important part with lasers is that you've got to maintain whatever you're pumping in an excited state, and every time light passes through it stimulates more emission.

Without something in between the mirrors that amplifies the light with every pass you just dissipate it all away.
