I have recently discovered a small deposit of fossilized plant matter including some incredibly well preserved seeds.
Would this be something that the botanic gardens or a local university would be interested in?
who should i give the seeds to?

Find a paleontology department specifically to inform about it. Paleobotanists are rare as fuck, and we need all the paleobotanical information we can get.

Very much so. Look up on googl what local university has any kind of biology or paleontology department, and call the department. Let them know what you have, and ask them what you should do.

Oh, also, try not to touch the plant parts. Any potential DNA extraction would be fucked. (though DNA extraction at this poit is almost impossible, there have been some successfull attempts)

how did you discover this deposit? not suspicious, just curious - I was on a hike in socal and there were fossilized shells on the trail and we were like 1,000 feet up or so, was a cool experience

You must live in a place that was once a seafloor. Same as me. Go to any hill around where i live, dig a few centimeters, and you find anything from shells to sharkteeth. I use rocks of limestone full of fossilised snails and clams as paperweights and doorstoppers and all sorts.
