Why do scientists study the universe only to let that knowledge be strong armed into exploitation by laymen? It could be weapons of mass destruction, bioengineered diseases or satellites used for spying and sabotage. It doesn't matter what the outcome of the research is, there is a 99.9% chance that every scientific discovery will be used for destruction of the world and what do scientists do; not one thing. Sure, they may "speak out" but in the end of the story they get steamrolled into submission damn near every single time. Scientists should care more about the applications of their discoveries otherwise they will eventually provide the means to destroy the very world they love to study.
