looking at the history of animals in space, it was dog laika who was the only mammal to reach the as of yet highest altitude, and we know she didn't last very long.. all other mammals were sent to lower safer altitudes

They are radiation belts specifically because they trap and concentrate energetic particles. If it was worse above then they wouldn't be belts at all.

Laika did not go above the belts, Sputnik 2 had an apogee of 1660 km. Not above the belts, but inside the inner belt. Manned missions have also been exposures to the inner belt, such as Gemini 11 which had an apogee of 1370 km. If Laika was really killed by radiation then why didn't it have any significant affect on the astronauts after 3 days?

There are several of Earth orbiting satellites measuring energetic particle data, such as Cluster and the van Allen probes, all with big public databases. If only you could test you claims in that data, but we both know you won't.

So? There is much better data available. If there really is this incredible gradient between 1400 and 1700 km that goes between "no symptoms" and "instant death" then it should be reflected in the particle fluxes.

I don't think you understand the gulf in radiation exposure required. As per dosimeters the astronauts on Gemini 11 received about 30 millirads over the course of a mission. It takes on the order of a thousand rads (1 million millirads) to kill a person, much more to do it in hours.
Again, if this gradient is so steep then I'm sure you can see it in the particle data.

You can estimate the minium gradient you would require for it to satisfy the Gemini measurements and provide a lethal dose to the dog. no one destroyed the technology, it just ceased to exist. it was no longer needed, supply chains and industrial branches around apollo was no longer needed as well, production facilities have been modified to build regular planes and other kinds of things again. apollo just vanished by itself, why keep unused machinery and no longer required machining and production methods you could only need for a project like apollo. the technology would be for todays mission unsuitable and obsolete anyways. no one would like to go to the moon again with outdated 60s production methods which were mostly based on trial and error and thousands of man hours of manual labor. the guy who adjusted the injector nozzles for the engines by hand just kept notes in a little book he kept on himself, he died propably long ago, and the know how with him. but we do not need it, we could simulate and calculate that stuff these days. the reason no one just builds a saturn v these days is that they are not efficient and dangerous. nasa dodged the bullet on apollo a couple of times.

Van Allen belts get hyped up as some stationary death ray these days, but that's mostly because they fuck up the electronics on our satellites really easily.

Well known is it is much easier to protect the electronics of a relatively small probe from the radiation than it is to protect an entire capsule meant to transport people. The capsules of the Apollo missions were never meant to protect against the Van Allen belts, and in fact some of the astronauts had/have little to no clue of what they even are. It is today admitted by NASA itself that these belts cannot be traversed by live beings, albeit they also claim the technology required to do so was somehow "lost" or "destroyed".
