Its always physicists. It all started with Einstein.
People know Carl Sagan, Hawking, Feynman, De Tyrone etc. Nobody gives a fuck about mathematicians.

These astrophysics promoters don’t make their money from the public generally, instead their fambases have a hardcore 20% that are radical atheists who literally worship physics. Their belief is that everything is made of material therefore the one who understands the laws by which material interacts and changes over time therefore knows the most fundamental knowledge of the universe.

So OP is wrong that nobody cares bout pop math, even though it's much less extensive that pop physics or pop astronomy.

With that settled now, find me a popsci biologist, paleontologist or a popsci geologist.
No one gives a shit about those. You'd think dinosaurs would be popular, but a pop dino is made for children.

I dont care much about proofs, sometimes i just want to have a description of math concepts and many examples to flesh them out. Im willing to have faith than the theorems have proofs just to not slow down my reading.
When i was a kid i was taught Pythagoras theorem, no proof was given, it was just stated and after 20 examples i guessed it was probably right. Same as all high school math.

Mathematicians have the highest autism level of all of stem, and thus there aren’t many of them who can be a public figure in that way. There are still some, of course, but fewer than with physics.
The field of chemistry, on the other hand, is populated only by absolute gigachads, which is why they mostly disregard popsci. Aside from fire and explosions.

it’s easier to commodify physics, especially astrophysics because the entire discipline is the essence of midwit tier.
you don’t see anybody give a fuck about Einstein’s work in statistical physics, despite how fundamental his work was in that field and how incredibly useful diffusion is.
The work of mathematicians is so far above the work of most physicists in intellectual challenge that the average person is more likely to be able to learn five languages in the time it’d take to even gain a superficial understanding - I say this as a PhD student in physics.
