The only real defense against a bullet is to not be there when it arrives. Yes there are armors, but stacking up more and more armor just means that the opponent needs to shoot a heavier or more powerful bullet or bomb at you, which is always easier and cheaper than you investing in your own armored defense.

Every material has it's strength limit past which anything can break it apart due to it de facto becoming liquid from temperature generated by the impact.
You need something to extract energy from the material during the impact. Some sort of thermal superconductor with some sort of source for negative energy. However that would violate the law of thermodynamics

I would guess that a 4 inch thick plate of titanium would stop all possible 50 BMG bullets. You could probably make OP's suit but you could barely move in it. By the way, does the bullet of a tank count as a kinetic bullet?

Mostly weight and cost, especially weight. You can make an arbitrarily thick layer of armor, but at some point it's too heavy to be man-portable. No, nothing you can carry around on your chest is going to reliably stop a .50 cal or higher. Even if you did, all that energy is still being transferred to your gut, just spread out over a larger area (the back surface of the armor plate).

If you mean one made of solid material, a suit that exerts a repulsive force field should be sufficient. Though even better might be some sort of resonance counter suit.

No, nothing stops even regular bullets now when more than a few rounds hit a plate.

Bullet proof armor is just for "feels" and nothing else really. It makes people FEEL safer, but doesn't do shit against most round and especially not against fire, explosives, etc.

The only answer (and the one used in tank armor) is explosive reactive armor. Can you strap ERA to an infantryman? Yes. Should you? No.
