Hello, I am having trouble understanding some mathematical concepts.
1. How were sin and cosine conceived, rather how did early mathematicians come to create sin and cosine? (It would help in grasping the concepts as I do not know what they are in pure mathematics, I just know how to apply them)
2. How was the derivative developed? I get that it is the rate of change on the infinitesimal scale but how exactly do you find the derivative just by ( f(x-h) - f(x)) / (h)? How would the derivative of a function be represented on a graph? What is the point of finding multiple derivatives?
3. How is cosine the derivative of sine? I know the proof but it is still hard to visualize on a graph how cosine could be the derivative of sine.
I gladly appreciate the help. I have trouble grasping mathematical concepts because I only learned how they are applied rather than what they are.
