>>14209286>If navy nuclear operators are anything to go by. It's extremely boring with long shitty hours. Which explains why they have the highest suicide rate in the military.Navy nuclear operators do not have nuclear engineering degrees. They learn the equivalent of an associates degree, with no math beyond pre-calculus.
Their suicide rates are not only due to the long shitty hours, but that most of them that are interested in the NUC pipeline instead of a more fun navy job, are all loser scrawny nerds that get tons of waivers for being out of shape. So if we were to normalize the distribution of personality types in the NUC program, we would find nothing out of the ordinary in their suicide rates.
Also, to be a nuclear offcer does not require a nuclear engineering degree. You can have a BS in any STEM subject and qualify. I served with a nuke JO with a psychology degree. The one person I did meet with a nuclear engineering degree actually hated how topics were discussed and the plant was operated on the boat, and said it was dumbed down to hell.
As for the civilian sector, your coworkers will be mostly other ex-Navy, so if you didn't enjoy spending time with them on deployment, you will not enjoy spending time with them as a civilian either. For job opportunities, you better be prepared to live in a few boring places in the US, like Perry, OH.
