Science and math are at an impasse. Math says .999... = 1. Physics says you cannot travel the speed of light, but you can approach the speed of light incrementally, thus you can travel at .999...c. This must be false though, because math says that is 1c. How will this be reconciled? Is physics wrong or are the math axioms on a shaky foundation?

Sounds like something someone made up in case they are proven wrong.

If you remember going the speed of light, it's because when you go near the speed of light, a side effect is false memories! And if you have proof and measurements you did, that's because going near the speed of light breaks instrumentation!
This is one primary reason I distrust physicists, they try to bake in escape clauses so save their egos.

"0.999..." is just naive notation used in high school algebra for the limit of a geometric sequence $s_n = \sum_{k=1}{n}9 \cdot 10^{-k}$ . When that's properly considered, "0.999..." is properly expressed as
$s = \lim s_n = \sum_{n=1}^\infty 9\cdot 10^{-n} = \frac{9\cdot\frac{1}{10}}{1- \frac{1}{10}}= \frac{9}{10 -1 }=\frac{9}{9} =1$

Because the ... implies infinite repetition. The closer you get to going the speed of light, the harder it is you accelerate. Sure you can keep adding 9's to the end of that decimal, but to add an infinite amount you'd need an infinite amount of energy.
